Founded in 1999, YouthStep met 2-3 times weekly so their teens could practice a percussive form of step-dancing producing complex rhythms requiring mental focus and cooperation. Our grant went to help pay for instruction and to support tournament costs.
YouthStep has now served some 1,500 kids, at the rate of about 200/year. It wants to go national - to help address the insidious problem of childhood obesity. Their dream is to partner with the White House’s Let’s Move campaign.
