The Center began as a pilot program with The Robin Hood Foundation in 2010 to develop a women’s business cooperative and in one of its programs, women were sent to cosmetology school.
The following cooperatives have since been established: We Can Do It (cleaning services), Beyond Care (child care), Golden Steps (elder care) and Youth Run for Youth (soccer for kids). All aim to develop real job skills. The NYC Council recently gave the Center a grant to train other agencies in forming cooperative programs.
