Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger

2009

$20,000

Brooklyn

This group provided food and emergency assistance to marginalized Brooklyn residents, one-third of whom lived at less than the Federal poverty level.  Grant for general operating expenses.

Now one of NYC’s largest emergency food pantries, this organization provides a supermarket-like setting where 11,000 individuals per month can select the food they want, including fresh fruits and vegetables.  In 2008, they established an urban farm on nearby vacant lots.
