UpBeat NYC uses the pursuit of musical excellence and ensemble performance to bring about positive changes in the lives of South Bronx children, ages 5-21. UpBeat operates a music center at two sites in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the South Bronx. The programs are free, instruments are mostly donated and admission is on a first come first served basis. The music center develops social and musical skills through pre-orchestra classes, private lessons, sectionals, ensemble playing, peer mentoring and public performance.
WellMet’s grant of $25,000 will be used for general operating support.
