PowerPlay advances the lives of girls in New York City, helping them grow physically, emotionally and academically stronger. PowerPlay creates opportunities for girls ages 6 through 21 by partnering with schools and community based organizations in NYC to conduct after-school and summer programs that emphasize physical fitness and education. Using sports as our hook, we build girls’ confidence and resiliency from the inside-out and create safe spaces where girls learn from each another and from strong female role models.
As of 2016, PowerPlay has 54 (and counting) sites in all five boroughs serving over 1,800 girls annually. PowerPlay has been chosen by the NY City Council to lead the STARS Citywide Girls Initiative, a collaboration of nine leading nonprofits that expands quality programming for girls in NYC.
