Established in 2002, Brooklyn Rescue promoted healthy living and a sense of community by supplying food, clothing and counseling, as well as the chance to work in their backyard urban farm.
Its website describes BR as an Urban Harvest Center food program. In 2005, a garden was planted on an abandoned lot, transforming it into a community oasis. The food program remains vibrant.
